New - 2008 Calendar of Online Video Contests
It seems that each week, we hear about several online video contests that are announced. Video contests may be held for any number of reasons; to build brand awareness, to create viral video clips, or to leverage users for new entertainment concepts. Just last week, we told you about 2 major music artists who have launched online video promotions in conjunction with their new albums - Nine Inch Nails and RadioHead
On Youtube, you can view all the online video contests that they have in the Youtube community. As of right now, there are 15 contests alone on Youtube.
There is even a website that is dedicated to news and information about online video contests - Vidopp.com. According to data released by vidopp, 192 video contests with cash prizes were covered by their site in 2007, with prizes totaling more than a million dollars.
If you subscribe to their RSS feed, they will often post articles notifying readers about upcoming contests, as well as contests about to expire.

Now, thanks to Anna Sebestyen of VideoVoo, we have a 2008 online video contest calendar that is complete with online video contest deadlines, and descriptions. Anna created the calendar using Google calendar and so you can add to it to your calendar, share it, embed it (iframe) into your website, etc… She also encourages users to update the calendar so that we can all benefit. One thing that may be useful for newbie advertisers: even if you have your own YouTube profile and link your contest to YouTube, it won’t be automatically detected by YouTube and added to the contest panel. You need to take some extra steps for getting into this valuable dissemination board.
